Sailability JacksonvilleSailability Jacksonville Inc. is leading the effort to improve the quality of life for everyone through a variety of on-water activities.
Spearheaded by the Navy League of the United States Jacksonville Council, Sailability Jacksonville will partner with government, corporate and other non-profit organizations to provide a sailing instruction program for individuals who have a desire to experience the joys of sailing. The program will initially operate six Access 303 Dinghies, one 24-foot semi-competitive C and C sailboat, and a 19-foot power boat used for chase and towing. Participation will be open to individuals who want to learn to sail and possess the capability to safely operate the specially equipped boats. Most circumstances involving disabilities or economic difficulties can be accomodated. A minimum age of 10 has been established as the only age requirement. Kick-off funding is provided through a $5000 City of Jacksonville grant. Sailability Jacksonville recently received a $10,000 grant from Brooks Health Foundation. Brooks Health Foundation grants are awarded to organizations serving those with disabilities in the following areas: training and skills development; higher education and research; community awareness; safety and injury prevention; quality of life; and accessibility.
