Be a Volunteer

Volunteering with Sailability Pittwater

Sailability is a group providing "Freedom on the water – Regardless of ability" – sailing experience for people with a Disability

Where do we operate:

Rowland Reserve Bayview, Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club Newport and Bayview Yacht Racing Association (BYRA) at Bayview.

Rowland Reserve Bayview: Every second Wednesday 10:30am till 5:00pm

Rowland Reserve Bayview: Every Second Saturday 10:00am till 2:00pm

Bayview Yacht Racing Association: On special days only.

We have a winter recess in the colder months for the recreational fleet June to August. You will find a calendar of our sailing dates on this website look under Wednesdays and Saturdays.

What do volunteers do?

A range of things depending on what you feel comfortable with including

  • Rigging and de-rigging the sailing boats – most disabled people are not able to do this themselves.
  • Helping people in and out of boats – we have special lifting equipment for this.
  • Going for a sail with disabled people – you don’t need to have sailed before. All our boats are designed so that they will NOT capsize, and we do not operate if the wind is too strong.
  • Welcoming and encouraging disabled people to gain confidence and be active.
  • Have a lot of FUN helping others and interacting with others.

Interested?

Why not come down for a no obligation look. Our next operating days at Rowland Reserve are shown on this website. If you want more information or think the weather might not be suitable, call:

John McCausland on 99825656 or Allan Jones on 0410 419 290.
