PITTERWATER MEMBERS STIKE GOLD

Very many congratulations to Alyse Saxby and coach Bob Hamilton on their winning a gold medal at the recent Special Olympic games held in Athens.

Alyse and Bob have been training very hard over the last two years in a 420 dinghy travelling intra and interstate to many events to gain competition experience and also selection for the Australian team. In addition to their rigorous training schedule they have also been hard at work raising money for the trip.

Alyse and Bob won by one point from the Virgin Islands and were in second place going into the final race. Nothing like a bit of pressure to get the Aussies going !

Sailability Pittwater has always put great deal of importance on training to both athletes and volunteers. It is very good to see that it has all paid off.

15th BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS - 8.4.2011

Sailability - Pittwater celebrated its 15th anniversary with a dinner held at the Pittwater Aquatic Club. The function was attended by our patron Mr. John Brogden, local State Member Mr. Rob Stokes and their wives, Councillor Patricia Giles, invited guests, volunteers and clients.

Following a sumptuous meal President Malcolm Murray welcomed everybody to the celebration and gave an outline of the Branches history and their achievements over the years. Maria and Lindsay Dalmon were acknowledged with having competed overseas on several occasions and coming back with swag of medals including Gold. Mention was also made of Alyse Saxby and her coach Bob Hamilton who will be taking part in the Special Olympics shortly in Athens.

Malcolm praised the quality of the volunteers at Pittwater Sailability who have raised the bar considerably over the past few years. Thanks was given to the number of individuals, companies and state/local bodies who have assisted the Branch in being able to building its fleet and infrastructure.

The President took the opportunity to announce the naming of a 2.3 electric servo controlled boat "Maria" much to the delight of Maria Dalmon who will be competing in this boat at the World Access Championships in Sydney next year.

Ian Stainton and John McCausland read out messages of memories and achievements from Sophie Marmont and Maria Dalmon.

Our patron, John Brogden, then made a speech thanking all the volunteers for all the work that they put in and what an invaluable service the Branch was to the local community. John then made, what was undoubtabley the highlight of the evening, the conferring of Life Membership upon Allan Jones.
