03-04 April 2010 - NSW ACCESS CHAMPIONSHIPS

The NSW Access Championships were held on 3rd and 4th April 2010 at Dobroyd Point, with three Pittwater 303s competing. Maria Dalmon with Ian Stainton as crew and Alyse Saxby with Bob Hamilton contested the 303 doubles events, while Helen Cregan and Bob Hamilton sailed the 303 single races.

Alyse and Bob came a creditable second in their event and at the end of the day Helen blitzed the field, taking out the Top Gun Trophy from a highly competitive race. The smile on Maria's face said it all, she thoroughly enjoyed the event even though the weather was not ideal.

All in all Pittwater was very well represented again.

OFFICIAL OPENING OF SAILABILITY PITTWATER'S NEW SHED

On Thursday 19th November 2009, Mr John Brogden our patron, along with Maria Dalmon, a sailor with Cerebral Palsy, officially opened the new storage shed for Sailability Pittwater at Rowland Reserve.

Also in attendance on the day were Cr. Harvey Rose, mayor of Pittwater, along withother councilors and senior staff and many of our sailors and volunteers.

President Malcolm Murray welcomed the gathering of about 35 people on a very warm day and expressed our gratitude for this new facility, which will provide much needed space for storage as well as training and maintenance equipment.

Major funding for this project of around $15,000, came from NSW Department of Sport and Recreation, Pittwater Council, Mona Vale Swingers Golf Club and Pittwater RSL.

A gourmet afternoon tea supplied by Sherrell, Corrie and Maree following the opening.

PITTWATER EXCELS AT 2008 NSW STATE ACCESS CHAMPIONSHIPS

The NSW championships for Access Dinghies was held at Lake Wallace, Wallerawang on the 23/ 24th February, hosted by this very new branch.

It was a great success and a credit to the organisers, with excellent weather both days, great accommodation and good food and plenty of socialising.

Once again Pittwater were very well represented both on and off the water. Allan Jones was the chief sailing organiser while Wally Wardle, was the race official with NSW President Graham Rayner. Malcolm Murray manned the safety boat for all races, and was kept very busy at times.

Our sailors were Ronald Notter, Helen Cregan and Les Swan in the Liberty class, Paul Butler and John Gordon in 303 singles, Alyse Saxby and Haley Marr (with crew) in the 303 doubles, and Lesley Christian, Graham Norris, Michael Breen, Tony Solomon and Ricky Faul in the special 303 / 2.3 division.

We had great support from our volunteers Corrie & Ian Stainton, Malcolm &Laurie Murray, Bob and Maria Hamilton, Sherryl Everett, Richard Warburton, Steve Marr,David Henderson and John McCausland. While Corrie was busy being Allan’s right hand, Ian was flat out manning the pontoon and keeping that end going smoothly.

At the end of a busy weekend Ronald was first and Helen second in Liberty, John G 3rd in 303 singles, Paul Butler was awarded the Encouragement Award. Helen was also given The Most Successful Female award.

Well done Pittwater, you did our branch proud.
