New dinghy launch
Content
Sailability President Kev Maddox accepts the “Arty” Booker from
Arthur Booker’s daughter, Jodie Goodwin, with Arthur’s widow,
Doris, and VSASA President Jim Ritchie looking on.
It was a picturesque day on the bay on 23rd July, when a
large gathering attended the launch of Sailability Bayside’s
newest dinghy - “Arty” Booker – a lasting memorial to
volunteer Arthur Booker who tragically lost his life when he
was attacked by a crocodile whilst holidaying in North
Queensland in September 2008.
The presentation of the boat was made possible by the fund
raising efforts of the Jimboomba based branch of the Veterans
Support and Advocacy Service Australia (VSASA), together
with contributions from the Brisbane Chapter of the Vietnam
Veterans Motorcycle Club (VVMC) and Sailability Bayside
itself (including $1,000 presented to volunteer Ian Reid, which
he was awarded as a finalist in IGA’s Unsung Hero competition
held late last year).
Arthur Booker was a Vietnam Veteran, who served with C and
B Squadrons of the 1st Armoured Regiment, South Vietnam
1968-69. As well as being an enthusiastic supporter of VSASA
and the VVMC. Arthur was also a keen volunteer at Sailability-
Bayside.
