2002 Access Dinghy Australian Nationals

Wow!! The 2002 Access Dinghy Australian Championships held in Canberra over the 2nd & 3rd March 2002, a roaring success

The Organising Committee wishes to thank Sailability ACT, the Three Lakes Sailing Club, the Access Dinghy Association, the Access Dinghy Foundation, Scouts ACT and the Lake Tuggeranong Sea Scouts for their support and hard work which made the 2002 Nationals the success. that it was

Our Wonderful Sponsors:       Without the generous financial support provided by the United Grand Lodge of  NSW and the ACT as the major sponsor and SMEC International (the Snowy Mountains Engineering Corporation) as our secondary sponsor, we would not have been able to host the 2002 Nationals.  Our sincere thanks for our sponsor's upport knows no bounds...(and thats the truth believe me)

and Supporters:       Our thanks is also extended to our many supporters whose donations and assistance in kind were also invaluable in ensuring the smooth operation the Access Dinghy Nationals have become.  Recognition is gladly extended to:  Capital Chemist, Kambah; Bottles Australia;  Derek Kelly & Sons, Printers of Scullin  ACT, Keirs of Canberra, Canberra Discount Chemicals and the Fyshwick Fresh Food Markets.  Thanks also to the Southern Cross Club of Canberra for their generous support in subsidising the costs of the Regatta function at the Yamba Sports Club in Phillip.

A Thousand Thanks:  Aren't Our Volunteers the Greatest?     Competitors have unanimously lauded the efforts of the Scouts who annually volunteer their services to assist us in the running of the Nationals.  Our thanks are again extended to all who assisted - from providing mobile refreshment trolleys through to those who manned the safety boats and radio communications and spent the weekend up to thier necks in water! Thanks gals and guys, we really appreciate your presence and enthusiasm.  Without you, we would be "dead-in-the -water".

Special thanks are also due to the 'Blue Phoenix Big Band' who entetained us along with the Brady Bunch (or is that the Barnbrook Bunch?) at the Saturday night Regatta function.

A Word from the Organising Committee:  On behalf of the Organising Committee I would like to congratulate all those who took part.  It was an outstanding weekend where the relaxed friendliness and spirit of co-operation between sailors and volunteers made it such a memorable weekend.  We hope you will come back for the 2003 Nationals!

Everyone will have their own memories of the weekend, whether it be the wonderful weather, meeting up with old friends, making new friends, sailing better than last year or just being there.

Next year we hope we can organise an even better regatta.  Please help us in this by completing the form which was attached to the Championship Chatter newsletter which we sent to each competitor shortly after the end of the regatta.  Your comments are invaluable to us in assessing the success of any variations we have introduced and in incorporating your comments.

Congratulations to the visiting overseas teams and sailors.  Your presence also adds to the level of competition as well as to the development of relationships and in extending the impact of the Access Dinghy family around the world.

See you on the water in 2003.           Terry Peek
